The Chargers are the most profitable team on the under through 9 weeks. The under is 8-1 in Chargers games this season, with the lone over hitting in Week 6 against the Broncos. Even then, only 39 points were scored (the game total was 37). Not a single Chargers game has reached 40 points yet, so why stray from the trend — especially against a Titans team that ranks 27th in points per game and owns the best secondary in football? That’s right, while the Titans’ defensive line has been shaky, their secondary has been elite. Tennessee is allowing only 155.8 passing yards per game, which ranks 1st in the NFL. If you’re Harbaugh, there’s no reason to attack the secondary when the Chargers’ wide receiving corps is already subpar. Instead, expect a heavy dose of JK Dobbins on the ground.

If the Chargers ride Dobbins for 20 or more carries to avoid the Tennessee secondary, it will create a running clock with long possessions. That’s the perfect recipe for the under. And the Titans are in a very similar spot since their quarterback situation is up in the air and the Chargers’ secondary is impressive. Instead, Tony Pollard will likely have another busy day on the ground. I’ll happily keep taking the Under in Chargers games when the total is near 40 points.

The Titans improved to 2-6 with their Week 9 overtime win over the Patriots. As you can imagine, “improving” to 2-6 signifies that it has been a pretty rough season for Tennessee. Starting quarterback Will Levis has been out for the last few weeks with a shoulder injury and seemed like he was trending toward playing last weekend, but the Titans decided to hold him out once again. Levis has returned to practice this week and seems to be in line to start on Sunday afternoon, but if he can’t then it will be Mason Rudolph again. Rudolph is 1-2 since taking over as the starting quarterback with losses to the Bills and Lions and 1 win against the Patriots. Last week’s victory over New England wasn’t a walk in the park, though, because it took until overtime to beat Drake Maye and company. Regardless of if it’s Levis or Rudolph, both could struggle against Los Angeles’ elite defense.

Jim Harbaugh has completely changed the Chargers’ identity. In 2023, their offense carried the team — as Justin Herbert had Keenen Allen and Austin Ekeler as his playmakers. Fast forward to this season and neither of those 2 weapons are in Los Angeles… but Harbaugh is. The former Michigan coach has made the Chargers the best defensive unit in football, as they rank 1st in points allowed per game. LA has given up 20 points or fewer in all 8 games this season, which comes against quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson, Kyler Murray and more. That doesn’t give me a lot of hope for Levis or Rudolph on Sunday. And considering the Chargers have scored 26 and 27 points in the last 2 weeks against the Saints and Browns, respectively, I’m expecting a similar performance against the Tennessee defense.
