Half Dome cables to be removed Wednesday, marking end of hiking season

The cables on Half Dome will be officially removed for the winter on Wednesday, October 16th, park officials announced.

"We recommend that people do not attempt the route when the cables are down," officials said, emphasizing the increased danger posed by winter conditions.

The park removes the cables after the summer season ends before the weather makes it unsafe for hikers.
