Saints announce last-minute roster moves before Week 8 vs. Chargers

The New Orleans Saints announced multiple last-minute roster moves before Week 8’s game with the Los Angeles Chargers, promoting a player to the 53-man roster and activating several others from the practice squad. Amadi appeared in a game earlier this season as a backup in the slot, and that figures to be his role again with Alontae Taylor playing more snaps out wide after Paulson Adebo’s injury. He is technically listed at safety but he typically lines up in the slot, and more often than not he’ll be busy on special teams covering punts and kickoffs.

Someone had to go for a spot to open for Amadi, and the Saints chose to put Mims on waivers so they could promote the safety. If he clears waivers, Mims should stick around on the practice squad; he’s played often on special teams but seen only a handful of touches on offense, and Kendre Miller’s return only further limited his opportunities.

This is the second game St. Brown is getting brought up for; the limit is three, so the Saints will need to sign him to the 53-man roster if he maxes out. He was on the field for just a single offensive snap last week (and wasn’t targeted), but he did take eight reps on special teams.

Teamer was only recently re-signed but the coaches were ready to throw him into a game right away. It’s tough to say what his role will be, but Johnathan Abram played just 11 snaps on defense after logging 104 over the previous two games, so they’re clearly shaking things up at safety.
