If the Browns offense were to look in a mirror, they would not have recognized themselves last Sunday. Led by veteran quarterback Jameis Winston, Cleveland looked poised and confident as they downed one of the AFC North’s fiercest rivals.
Making his first start of the season, Winston threw for 334 yards and three touchdowns as the Browns offense came to life in the second half. Cleveland outscored the Ravens 23-14 in that stretch. Putting that in perspective, the Browns had not scored more than 18 points in a single game this season. Perhaps that rendition of Cleveland football is in the rearview mirror.
It’s easy to fall in love with one game. Make no mistake, Winston empowers Cleveland with swagger and a booming ability for explosive plays. There will be the occasional interception, but it’s a risk they are willing to take.
After a solid performance against Cincinnati, wide receiver Cedric Tillman exploded onto the scene against the Ravens with seven receptions for 99 yards and two touchdowns, both in the second half, including the game-winner. Tillman is averaging 90 yards in the last two games.
Cleveland has yet to field a 100-yard receiver, though that statistic seems destined to crumble with Winston under center.
Tight end David Njoku is also trending upward. He touts two consecutive games with a touchdown and has reeled in 25 receptions for 226 yards.
Running back Nick Chubb contributed 52 yards on 16 carries against the stingy Baltimore defense. He will be itching to go for his third game, accompanied by a returning Jerome Ford in the backfield.
The offense is now the second-worst in the league, tallying 272.3 yards per game.
Cleveland‘s defense held the Baltimore rushing tandem of running back Derrick Henry and quarterback Lamar Jackson to a combined 119 yards. They held the team to 124 rushing yards, which was the Ravens season- low.
The Browns have not allowed a 100-yard rusher this season. Cleveland has allowed 150 rushing yards or more twice.
The Browns defense notched three sacks and seven tackles for loss against the Ravens.
Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett has gone four games without a sack. he has four sacks, two forced fumbles and 17 solo tackles this season.

Cleveland’s newfound offense will be tested against a Los Angeles Chargers team that is allowing a league-low 13 points per game. The most points they have allowed this season is 20.
They are eighth in yards allowed and 11th in rushing yards allowed. Los Angeles also allows the fewest amount of first downs per game.
Winston nearly threw a game-ending interception last week. That kind of carelessness could cost them against this stingy defensive unit. Baltimore’s secondary was atrocious. Los Angeles’ is a versatile alternative.
There is a caveat: the Chargers defense will bend. They have allowed 300 or more yards in their last six games. Six of their nine touchdowns allowed have been through the air.
The final dent in the league-leading reputation is that they have feasted on the Raiders, Panthers, Broncos and Saints. That’s less than average quarterback play from Gardner Minshew, Bryce Young, Bo Nix and Spencer Rattler.
On the offensive side, the Chargers are steadily putting it together.
After a pedestrian start, Justin Herbert has been sharpening his craft. The quarterback has thrown for 1,443 yards with eight touchdowns and one interception. He has completed 64.8% of his passes.
Wide receiver Ladd McConkey has emerged through the air, notching 30 receptions for 376 yards and four touchdowns.
The rushing attack is much lighter compared to last week’s unenviable task. J.K. Dobbins, who reemerged back onto the map with a strong first game this season, has fallen back into mediocrity. Dobbins has rushed for 270 yards and two touchdowns in the past six weeks, averaging a paltry 3.2 yards per carry.
Los Angeles has only turned the ball over four times, which is the third-best mark in the NFL this season.
